Childcare and Â鶹AV Vital to Post Economic Recovery
Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem points to childcare and education as vital to a post-COVID economic recovery, as they’ll support the enhanced digital needs and undo the disproportionate impacts wrought by the pandemic. With school and childcare closures forcing many women to leave the workforce, investments making childcare more affordable and available will turn this female labour force participation drop into an economic aberration, not a permanent reduction. The governor also notes COVID’s mass digital innovations makes K-12 and post-secondary systems sharpening the digital competencies of their students critical.
